Tensile Structures and ETFE in Dammam, Khobar and the Eastern Province
Based in Dammam, building across the Eastern Province
TMSI's office and factory are in Dammam, at Building 3855 in Al Khadhriyah, and the Eastern Province is where most of our documented work stands. Our project directory lists 20 membrane projects in Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, South Dhahran, Al Jubail, Jafurah, South Ghawar and Al Hasa — more than 61,000 m² of membrane across the 17 projects with a recorded area.
Design, engineering, steel fabrication, membrane manufacture and installation are all done in-house. Working close to our own factory matters on a membrane project: mock-ups and fabric tests happen before anything travels, and the same company that welds a panel is the one that installs it.
ETFE roofs in the Eastern Province
All three of TMSI's completed ETFE projects are here. At MACHS — the Mohammed Al-Mana College for Health Sciences in Dammam — we designed, supplied and installed more than 1,500 m² of double-layer ETFE cushions on a rolled tubular steel arch grid, inflated to 250–300 Pa by a dual-fan air handling unit. In Khobar, a 500 m² clear single-layer ETFE roof on a stainless steel cable net covers a private villa courtyard. In Al Jubail, 256 m² of single-layer ETFE carries a custom silver frit to cut solar gain and glare.
In this climate the question is never whether enough daylight will arrive, but how much solar energy comes with it. We engineer that through fritting, tinted or matt foils and additional cushion layers, and on MACHS the steelwork was blast-cleaned and coated for the coastal Eastern Province environment.
Tensile structures and car park shades
Most of our Eastern Province projects are car park and shade structures. In Khobar we delivered 10,000 m² of PVDF car parking shades for Arabian Drilling and 1,540 m² for Retal, both in 2024. In Dammam our car park work includes 7,500 m² of HDPE for BEEAH and 4,500 m² of HDPE for Beijing Construction Engineering Group.
For Saudi Aramco we have delivered car park packages at Jafurah (12,000 m² and 9,600 m² of PVDF with Al Tamimi and Alfa Al Khaleej) and South Ghawar (7,500 m²), plus 1,450 m² of PVDF hyper and sail shades for housing in South Dhahran. Other regional work includes 1,140 m² of PVDF at Shiraa Mall in Dammam and a 1,450 m² PVDF tent structure in Al Hasa.
How we work
Every structure goes through form finding, finite element analysis, connection detail design and climatic analysis. Load analysis sizes foundations, steelwork and fabric pre-stress. In the factory, patterns are cut with minimal wastage, joined and tested; ETFE cushions are test-inflated and inspected before dispatch. On site, TMSI supervisors manage cranes, crews and safety plans through to handover, and we remain available for repairs and scheduled inspections afterwards.
TMSI holds ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certification and Saudi Aramco 9COM contractor qualification.
Frequently asked questions
Where is TMSI's factory?
Our factory and office are in Dammam, at Building 3855, Al Khadhriyah, Dammam 34341. Membrane patterning, welding, steel fabrication and ETFE cushion testing all take place there before assemblies are delivered to site. You can reach us on 920011060, Sunday to Thursday from 07:30 to 17:00.
Has TMSI built ETFE roofs in the Eastern Province?
Yes. TMSI has completed three ETFE projects, all in the Eastern Province: more than 1,500 m² of double-layer cushions at MACHS in Dammam, a 500 m² clear single-layer roof over a private villa courtyard in Khobar, and 256 m² of printed single-layer ETFE in Al Jubail.
What happens to an ETFE cushion roof during a power cut?
The cushions stay inflated for a period. Non-return valves hold the pressure for approximately three to six hours after a power failure, depending on the weather. The air handling unit itself draws very little power, in the order of 60 to 120 W, because it only maintains pressure rather than generating continuous airflow.
Do you work on Saudi Aramco sites?
Yes. TMSI holds Saudi Aramco 9COM contractor qualification and has delivered packages at Jafurah, South Ghawar and South Dhahran, including PVDF car park shades and hyper and sail shades for housing. Our quality and safety systems are certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 45001.
