Tensile and Shade Structures in Riyadh
Tensile shade structures for Riyadh projects
TMSI designs, engineers, manufactures and installs tensile membrane structures for clients across Saudi Arabia, and Riyadh is part of that map. Every membrane panel and steel component is produced in our own facility in the Industrial Area of Dammam, delivered to site as a finished, numbered assembly, and installed by teams working under TMSI site supervisors.
For a park, campus, car park or public space in the capital, this means one contractor is accountable from the first sketch to handover. There is no gap between the membrane designer's assumptions and the steel fabricator's tolerances — a frequent source of delay and cost on membrane packages.
Our projects in Riyadh
At Prince Sultan Bin AbdulAziz Park we delivered a 324 m² PTFE tensile structure, completed in 2023 for a government-sector park. At King Salman Science Oasis we installed more than 2,090 m² of PVDF car parking shades for an education-sector campus.
These sit within a wider national record: 65,000 m² of PTFE membrane across nine train stations in Makkah for MRDA, SAR and CRCC, 10,000 m² of PVDF at Jeddah Airport for Saudi Airlines, the restoration of tensile canopies at three Madinah Metro stations with zero operational disruption, and more than 300,000 m² of car park shade structures delivered.
Choosing the membrane: PTFE, PVDF, PVC or ETFE
PTFE is a glass-fibre membrane used for critical transit and landmark infrastructure, built to last decades with minimal maintenance — the fabric we used at Prince Sultan Park. PVDF-coated fabric combines long-term UV resistance with architectural flexibility and suits commercial, residential and car park work, as at King Salman Science Oasis. PVC is the versatile, cost-effective option for smaller canopies.
ETFE is TMSI's flagship system. It weighs roughly 1% of an equivalent area of glass and transmits up to 95% of natural light, with solar gain controlled by silver fritting, tinted or matt foils and additional cushion layers. Our completed ETFE roofs are in Dammam, Khobar and Al Jubail; the foils are welded and the cushions tested in our Dammam factory, so the same system can be supplied to a Riyadh project.
We recommend the system and fabric once we understand the area, the use and the shading you need.
How we deliver a project in Riyadh
Design starts with form finding and finite element analysis, connection detail design and climatic analysis, supported by sketches, 3D models and photomontages. Engineering load analysis then sizes the foundations, the steelwork and the pre-stress of the fabric, taking account of environmental loads, load transfer and deflections.
In the factory, patterns are cut with minimal wastage, joined and detailed, and mock-ups and fabric tests are carried out before anything travels. On site, our supervisors coordinate crews and local labour, supervise cranes and mechanical equipment, and work to health and safety plans, method statements and risk assessments through to handover.
Why choose a Saudi manufacturer
Our business traces back to 1976 and has worked under the TMSI name since 2010. TMSI holds ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certification, Saudi Aramco 9COM contractor qualification and Municipality approved vendor number 10066220. Because the membranes are made in our own factory, replacement sections can be manufactured to exact specification later, and we offer specialist repairs and scheduled inspection programmes after handover.
Frequently asked questions
Does TMSI build tensile structures in Riyadh?
Yes. TMSI has delivered a 324 m² PTFE tensile structure at Prince Sultan Bin AbdulAziz Park and more than 2,090 m² of PVDF car parking shades at King Salman Science Oasis. All membranes and steelwork are manufactured in our Dammam factory and installed by TMSI-supervised teams, so a Riyadh project gets the same single point of responsibility as any other.
Can TMSI supply an ETFE roof for a Riyadh building?
Yes. ETFE panels and cushions are patterned, welded and tested in our Dammam factory and can be delivered to projects anywhere in the Kingdom. Our completed ETFE references are in Dammam, Khobar and Al Jubail, covering double-layer cushions and clear and printed single-layer systems. Solar gain is controlled through fritting, tinted or matt foils and extra cushion layers.
Which fabric suits a car park shade in Riyadh?
It depends on the budget, the span and the look you want, so we recommend after reviewing the brief. Our Riyadh car park at King Salman Science Oasis uses PVDF-coated fabric, which combines long-term UV resistance with architectural flexibility. Across our documented car park projects we have also used HDPE and PTFE.
What do you need to prepare a quotation?
Send us the area in square metres, the city and the fabric or shading you need. From that we come back with a recommended system and an indicative budget. Our team works Sunday to Thursday, 07:30 to 17:00, and we reply within one working day by phone on 920011060 or WhatsApp.
