Car parking shades are where we started

Car parking shades are part of TMSI's history. In 1988 the business, then trading as CWORKS, became a recognised name in car parking shades, tents and awnings, and later moved into engineered tensile membrane structures. Today car park structures remain our largest portfolio: the company's track record stands at more than 300,000 m² of car park shades delivered across Saudi Arabia and the region.

Our project directory documents 16 car park projects in detail — more than 56,000 m² across the 11 with a recorded area — for industrial, government, residential, commercial and education clients.

Selected car park projects

Our largest documented car park packages are for Saudi Aramco: 12,000 m² of PVDF at Jafurah with Al Tamimi, 9,600 m² at Jafurah with Alfa Al Khaleej, and 7,500 m² at South Ghawar. In Khobar we completed 10,000 m² of PVDF shades for Arabian Drilling and 1,540 m² for Retal, both in 2024.

In Dammam we have used HDPE for BEEAH (7,500 m²), Beijing Construction Engineering Group (4,500 m²), Saudi Electricity Company (1,023 m²) and the Murcia residential compound (500 m²), and PVDF for the ALPLA plastics plant. In Riyadh, King Salman Science Oasis has more than 2,090 m² of PVDF car parking shades, and the South Dhahran housing project for Aramco combines PTFE and HDPE.

PVDF, HDPE or PTFE?

PVDF-coated fabric is the material we specify most often for car parks — 11 of our 16 documented car park projects use it. It combines long-term UV resistance with architectural flexibility, so it can be tensioned into cleaner, more architectural forms.

HDPE shade fabric appears on four of our documented car parks, mostly for industrial and residential clients in Dammam where large areas need to be covered. PTFE glass-fibre membrane is our choice for landmark and infrastructure work that must last decades with minimal maintenance, and it is used with HDPE at South Dhahran housing.

The right choice depends on the bay layout, the appearance you need, the budget and how long the structure must perform. We recommend a system once we have seen the site plan.

Engineered, not just assembled

A car park shade is a structure first. Our engineers build computer models with load analysis calculations; the loads on the fabric determine the stress on the structure, and from that we size the foundations, the steelwork and the fabric pre-stress, considering environmental loads, load transfer and deflections.

Fabric patterns are cut in our Dammam factory with minimal wastage, joined and detailed, while the steel is fabricated in-house. On site, TMSI supervisors coordinate crews and cranes under health and safety plans, method statements and risk assessments — important on live industrial and Aramco sites, where we hold Saudi Aramco 9COM contractor qualification. TMSI is also a Municipality approved vendor (10066220).

Frequently asked questions

How much car park shading has TMSI delivered?

More than 300,000 m² of car park shade structures across Saudi Arabia and the region, according to the company's track record. 16 of these car park projects are documented in our project directory, totalling more than 56,000 m² across the 11 with a recorded area, including packages for Saudi Aramco, Arabian Drilling and BEEAH.

Which fabric is best for car park shades?

PVDF-coated fabric is our most common choice, used on 11 of 16 documented car park projects, because it combines long-term UV resistance with architectural flexibility. HDPE is used where large areas need economical cover, and PTFE where a structure must last decades with minimal maintenance. We recommend after seeing the site plan.

Can TMSI work on Aramco and industrial sites?

Yes. TMSI holds Saudi Aramco 9COM contractor qualification and ISO 45001 occupational health and safety certification. We have delivered car park shades at Jafurah, South Ghawar and South Dhahran for Aramco, and for industrial clients such as Arabian Drilling, BEEAH, ALPLA and Beijing Construction Engineering Group.

What information do you need for a car park shade quote?

Send us the number of bays or the area in square metres, the city and your preferred fabric if you have one. A site plan helps us propose the layout. We come back with a recommended system and an indicative budget, and we reply within one working day.
